DESCRIPTION:Motivational Interviewing is one of the most heavily researched interventions in the fields of addiction\, behavioral health\, and medicine. Study after study has reliably demonstrated that implementing this practice with proficiency and consistency will improve behavioral healthcare outcomes for consumers. MI is an approach that attempts to move an individual away from a state of indecision or uncertainty and towards finding motivation to make positive decisions and accomplish established goals. MI is a directional\, client-centered style of interacting with the goal of eliciting behavior change by helping individuals explore and resolve ambivalence. Rather than acting in an antagonistic or combative way\, the helper engages with the consumer to explore his/her feelings\, including ambivalence about changing\, and help clients find their own motivations. This workshop provides participants with an overview of the research and theoretical base for the mode. In this 2-day training\, hosted in-person in ABQ\, NM\, participants will practice MI strategies and skills in small groups throughout the day – while focusing specifically on how to use MI effectively in the context of clinical supervision. Simply stated “when I do a good thing\, I get a good thing.” CM studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of CM interventions in reducing AOD use\, improving treatment attendance\, and reinforcing other treatment goals\, such as complying with a medication regimen or obtaining employment. DESCRIPTION:Relationship to Feeling Gives Rise to Self: Physical and psychological trauma can become chronically painful and disruptive when they are experienced in the context of interpersonal isolation\, dismissal\, minimization\, and compromised attunement (described here as a combination of empathy and compassion-oriented engagement). Our nervous system is inclusive of a set of structures that bring emotional information into a sense of feeling when the information is determined to be salient to our survival. At a young age\, we learn to relate to this information largely through how it is modeled for us by those we rely on for survival\, e.g. primary caregivers\, family\, peers\, and community. When a relationship to this important emotional information is not adequately modeled or is continuously met with contention\, dismissal\, and resistance\, we easily divorce ourselves from attending to the information helpfully. When habituated to this behavior\, we can experience a myriad of seemingly disconnected difficulties\, including chronic hopelessness\, dissociation\, impairing anxiety\, obsession\, compulsion\, avoidance\, chronic and seemingly uncontrollable mood disturbances\, and many more. This training aims to disseminate information on research and practices that may guide professionals as they support relational growth or regrowth to felt emotional experience. The training also aims to highlight how these approaches can greatly support the restoration of functional capacity. Experiential exercises are a component of this training. SUMMARY:Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) - SOR
DESCRIPTION:CRAFT is the only evidence-based program designed to assist families that are challenged by addiction. It uses a uniquely balanced approach that relies on positive reinforcement and positive communication while maintaining boundaries that protect the family. CRAFT is a culturally sensitive program that works with families to positively influence the behavior of the person with an active addiction. The program emphasizes learning new skills including 1) how to stay safe\, 2) how to understand the function of the addictive behaviors\, 3) how to use positive reinforcers (rewards) and 4) how to let the substance user suffer the natural consequences for their using behavior. CRAFT research has shown that almost 7 out of 10 people who use the program get their substance user to attend treatment. CRAFT has been shown to be equally effective with Hispanic\, Indigenous\, and Anglo families. DESCRIPTION:This free two-day workshop focuses on motivational interviewing & will begin on Wednesday\, May 1st\, and continue on Friday\, May 3rd. Motivational Interviewing (MI) Level 1 Motivational Interviewing is one of the most heavily researched interventions in the fields of addiction\, behavioral health\, and medicine. Study after study has reliably demonstrated that implementing this practice with proficiency and consistency will improve behavioral healthcare outcomes for consumers. MI is an approach that attempts to move an individual away from a state of indecision or uncertainty and towards finding motivation to make positive decisions and accomplish established goals. MI is a directional\, consumer-centered style of interacting with the goal of eliciting behavior change by helping individuals explore and resolve ambivalence. Rather than acting in an antagonistic or combative way\, the helper engages with the consumer to explore his/her feelings\, including ambivalence about changing\, and help clients find their own motivations. This workshop provides participants with an overview of the research and theoretical base for the model. Participants will also practice MI strategies and skills in small groups throughout the day in this online training. There will be a 1 HR lunch break from noon-1 pm MST\, May 1st and May 3rd. SUMMARY:Community Reinforcement Approach and Family Training - SOR 9/26/23 & 9/27/23
DESCRIPTION:This 2-day workshop is on CRAFT – Community Reinforcement Approach and Family Training – the only evidence-based program to assist families that are challenged by addiction. It uses an overall positive approach and steers clear of any confrontation. CRAFT is a culturally sensitive program that works with families to positively influence the behavior of a person with an active addiction. The program emphasizes learning new skills to cope with old problems. Some of the components include how to stay safe\, understand the function of the addiction\, and teach caregivers how to use positive reinforcers (rewards) and how to let the substance user suffer the natural consequences of their using behavior. CRAFT research has shown that almost 7 out of 10 people who use the program get their substance users to attend treatment\, and has been shown to be equally effective with Hispanic and Anglo families. A working camera and microphone are required for this training\, and full participation is required throughout the entire training in order to receive CEUs\, (12 CEUs).
